Etihad Forest - Plant 1 Mangrove on Jubail Island in Abu Dhabi
The Etihad Mangrove Forest is located on Jubail Island in Abu Dhabi. By planting mangroves in this large-scale natural forest, we’re able to maximise the absorption of CO2 without having to use additional water or fertiliser – even with the UAE’s harsh climate.
Launched in February 2022, the Etihad Mangrove Forest is focused on biodiversity, wildlife and environmental protection. It aims to bring our guests into our sustainability story by giving you the opportunity to plant, adopt and discover mangroves’ important ecological role.
Mangroves are a habitat for birds and underwater wildlife; they improve water quality and provide flood protection. One mangrove absorbs 12.3kg of CO2 in just 12 months and 250kg over its lifetime. Over its lifetime, a mangrove absorbs the same amount of CO2 as produced by an eight-hour flight.
When you’ve adopted a mangrove, we’ll email you with a link to name your mangrove and watch it grow. You can track its location, age and height – and even chat to it – for up to 10 years.
Purchasing a tree from Etihad forest does not give the buyer legal ownership of the tree. The buyer will only adopt the tree for a period of 10 years. EcoMatcher are an Etihad partner who spend a lot of time vetting and monitoring the tree(s), it is understood that the survival rate of newly planted tree(s) is partly in the hands of Mother Nature.
